A Woman’s Best Friend

April 9th, 2012

Megan Leavey, wearing a pair of Prosperity bracelets, with Sgt. Rex.

Former marine Megan Leavey is reunited with partner after six years.  Leavey was granted custody of Sgt. Rex, a bomb-sniffing German Shepherd, after a public petition to save the brave canine.

In 2006, Leavey and Sgt. Rex were both injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq.  While Leavey was sent home and discharged for her wounds, Rex was sent back to Iraq to put his highly-skilled sniffer back to saving lives.

At 10 years-old, Sgt. Rex was retired but at risk of being put down, as military dogs often have a hard time acclimating to civilian life and are deemed unadoptable.  However Leavey waited a long time for Rex’s retirement and worked tirelessly to adopt him.

Her mission to be reunited with her canine-comrade became public thanks to Senator Charles Schumer for starting an online petition that gathered over 20,000 signatures.

Luckily for Sgt. Rex, it worked and he was adopted by Leavey last week.

Same Sky would like to extend their warmest congratulations to this brave duo.

I discovered SAME SKY by accident and have ordered probably 30 bracelets in the past 3 weeks. Every friend I have given one to has been almost in tears when I tell them about this cause. Congratulations on helping so many deserving women and doing it in such an elegant and stylish way. As one well traveled friend put it "I always want to buy things like this to help women in other countries, but the stuff is usually so ugly that it makes it hard to get excited about supporting them." These bracelets are so beautiful and I thank you for making my Christmas shopping so easy! Good luck with SAME SKY!

I saw the Inside Edition episode showing the story on Same Sky. While it was playing I grabbed the Ipad and got on the website and ordered 2 bracelets. I support a few other organizations and I have never been so proud as I am for doing this. I hope these women know how much we look up to them. God bless all of you and all of the people involved. I wish I could hug all of you. After taking another look today on the website I am already thinking of ordering another bracelet.

These Rwanadan women who have survived AIDS and the genocide, are making the most beautiful glass bead bracelets and they get the proceeds, for the firat time in their lives thaty have food and shelter and the necessities of life. We all NEED to order a bracelet, NO, they are not cheap but consider it charity! You will feel good about it and have a beautiful bracelet to show for it.

Dear Asante – it is because of women like you that the world is so wonderful. I am proud to wear my bracelet. I actually got rid of my Pandora bracelet and took my two Pandora charms and wear them on my Same Sky black bracelet. It is actually quite fashionable and I talk about SameSky all of the time. It is nightime here and as I look up at the stars there you are – under the same sky. Please keep up the good hard work. The children of this world need you.
