JUNE AMBASSADOR OF THE MONTH

May 30th, 2012

Julie Bell is the EVP of Global Marketing at Benefit Cosmetics and a long time supporter of Same Sky. We are so proud to have her as our Ambassador of the Month. Below is our interview with Julie, where we discussed empowering women, confidence, and conscientious consumerism.

What drew you to Same Sky?
The Same sky journey of helping women in Rwanda improve the quality of their lives in a productive way, while simultaneously helping them gain confidence, self respect and sense of self worth and pride.

What makes Same Sky unique or stand out from other organizations?
Samesky builds a community of women who are all deeply connected to empowering women no matter what level of involvement – from the artisans to anyone who wears their jewelry.

How does Same Sky’s mission reflect your own interests?
I have a passion for helping women feel better about themselves.

What does women’s empowerment mean to you?
Empowerment for me means having the self awareness, experience and confidence to make choices & decisions to the best of ones ability at that particular time.

Has women’s empowerment always been a part of your life?
My career has been solely working in the cosmetics business which is dedicated to women feeling better about themselves which is a pivotal aspect of empowerment.

How do you feel the ethical products are changing shopping patterns?
The art of shopping has always been a source of pleasure for women and now ethical shopping gives someone an even greater sense of pride, fulfillment and joy to purchase something knowing that it has helped someone else.

Do you have a message for the artisans?
Your creations are truly beautiful and it is an honor to wear your jewelry. You have given women all over the world such beauty and we so appreciate your efforts, talents and creations.

Do you have a message for our customers?
Wearing Samesky jewelry is truly a privilege and the compliments you receive for your unique and stylish pieces are so magnified when you share the Samesky story. We are all truly blessed to be part of this special community of gals who get to be part of the Samesky journey.

I just saw a feature on "Inside Edition" TV show regarding the Same Sky initiative for Rwandan genocide survivors.  As a retiree, I couldn't afford  a glass bead bracelet, but purchased a fabric wrap.  I'll wear it with pride and spread the word about this worthwhile enterprise.  How wonderful to see these survivors supporting themselves and improving their lives.  I hope they see each sale as a vote of confidence from those of us who have been more fortunate.  I wish them peace of mind, success and every happiness.

This is truly one of the most exciting micro finance projects I have seen as it so beautifully marries fashion, micro-finance and philanthropy!!!
